 После экспериментов на одноименном альбоме «Labyrinth» и ухода в заоблачные дали на «Freeman», Labyrinth попытался вернуться к тому звучанию, которое, по сути, и принесло группе славу. Однако не зря говорят про реку, в которую нельзя войти дважды – так и с Labyrinth-ом, во всей этой череде бесконечных экспериментов с современным звучанием они, как бы это не звучало банально, окончательно потеряли себя в музыкальном лабиринте. Начало диска настраивает на самый что ни на есть положительный лад – похожий на второй альбом звук, спокойный вокал Роберто, который лишь иногда забирается в «вокальные верхи», приятная, не напрягающая мелодика на стыке прогрессив/пауэра и мелодик металла, некий намек на хитовость в первых двух композициях, а вот дальше... Музыка похожа на увязшего в собственных фантазиях больного человека, который мечется от одной к другой в замкнутом пространстве и не знает, можно ли, и, главное, как освободиться и взглянуть на мир незамутненным взором. Даже классическая и всегда выигрышная «Come Together» The Beatles не становится той самой путеводной звездой, которая покажет нужную дорогу. От бессилия и тщетности попыток на первый план вновь выходят прогрессивные сбивки, которые хоронят добротную мелодию «Just One Day» и почти убивают «What», более внятную по сути, но столь же хаотичную по содержанию, как и предшествующую ей композицию… И когда кажется, что надежды нет никакой, безумец кидается в очередную крайность и углубляется в забытый модерновый звук, который, о чудо, дарит надежду в виде легкой и воздушной «Coldness», с неимоверной легкостью западающей в душу, беда лишь в том, что немногим суждено добраться до нее. Но увы, все хорошее заканчивается слишком быстро, увлечение модерн звуком сверх меры в надежде на скорое излечение, приводит к поражению в излишне жесткой «Rusty Nail», звучащей как жалкие попытки одновременно свести Talisman времен «Humanimal» и Pain of Salvation. Шаг назад – и вновь у больного есть надежда на благоприятный исход, «Out of Control» звучит так, как должно, не только интересно, но и выразительно. А дальше вновь пике, вновь бездумные блуждания и хаотичные шатания от стиля к стилю, заканчивающиеся в тихой гавани старинной «Peace of Time», которую, кажется никакой переделкой не испортить… У Labirynth-a определенно есть шансы, но вот сумеют ли они их использовать – остается лишь гадать и… ждать нового альбома (Диск предоставлен компанией Mazzar Records) |

Музыку Labyrinth последних лет можно охарактеризовать как мелодик-пауэр-метал; порой даже кажется, что группе рукой подать до мелодик-рока. Вот и первая половина нового альбома характерна легковесными гитарами и выведенными на передний план клавишными. Затем гитарные риффы несколько утяжеляются, но... С материалом в этот раз итальянцы подкачали, - и если в начале диска еще возможно найти неплохие ходы, то затем все становится как-то уж совсем серо и невыразительно, да к тому же усугубляется низкобюджетным продюсированием, а высокий вокал Тиранти местами попросту режет слух. Вяловато будет. |
