 Вскоре после выхода альбома "The Ritual" 92-го года из-за творческих разногласий оригинальный состав Testament претерпел некоторые изменения, поэтому "Return to the Apocalyptic City" фактически является первым диском, выпущенным с новыми участниками коллектива. Луи Клементе за ударными заменил Пол Бостаф (ex-Forbidden, позже Slayer), а место Алекса Школьника занял Глен Алвелэйс (ex-Forbidden).
EP содержит шесть треков: пять концертных записей и бонус - "переделанную" студийную композицию (на самом деле, эта версия "Return to Serenity" отличается от оригинала лишь отсутствием интродукции и завершения). Все песни - старые, проверенные временем хиты, за исключением, разве что, "So Many Lies", но и она, пожалуй, является самой агрессивной с 'Ритуала'.
Техника, как всегда, на высшем уровне, несмотря на изменения в составе. При всем моем уважении к Школьнику, Алвелэйса можно считать вполне достойной заменой (чего стоит одно только соло в 'The Haunting'!).
Работу звукоинженеров следует выделить особенно. Звук на диске сделан более чем прилично, а для своего времени так вообще замечательно. Все инструменты, а также вокал Чака звучат, как полагается, зал слышно, где надо.
Работа, в целом, качественная и весьма показательная, можно брать за эталон живых выступлений. Помимо прочего, "Return to the Apocalyptic City" является первым live-CD группы. Так что единственное, что меня печалит, как слушателя и поклонника творчества Testament'а, так это лишь то, что альбом не полноформатный. Рекомендую. |
