 К сожалению, нужно признать, что большинство команд, решившихся на эксперименты со звучанием, используют техничность более для эпатажа, нежели во благо музыке. Впрочем, именно лучшие из таких групп никогда не увлекались одной лишь сложностью материала: достаточно вспомнить Edge of Sanity и Pan-Thy-Monium, Phlebotomized или In the Woods. Голландцы Threnody, без сомнения, относятся к категории «технарей», однако это один из немногих примеров, когда такой подход 100%-но оправдан умением музыкантов совмещать «умную» музыку с красивыми мелодиями! Пожалуй, лишь знакомство с “Pleasuredome” Disharmonic Orchestra в итоге произвело на меня такое же сильное впечатление. Этот альбом, к сожалению, точно так же не был понят мной с первого раза. Более того, я посчитал Threnody просто посредственной трэш-группой. Виною тому достаточно заурядное для подобного рода команд звучание: сухое, без привлечения клавишных, без высоких скоростей и показной демонстрации мастерства «на публику». Действительно, Threnody не назовешь новаторами в прог-метале. Все, в чем данный стандартный метал-квартет позволил себе выйти за рамки стиля – это немного чистого вокала и несколько недисторшированных переборов струн. Ближайшими соратниками голландцев являются мелодичные команды вроде Death, итальянцев Kenos или наших соотечественников Hieronymus Bosch, «Equivoke» которых очень во многом перекликается с этой работой. Однако даже в сравнении с этими коллективами музыка Threnody кажется мне слишком «интровертной»: размеренной, сдержанной и лишенной любых резких углов. На альбоме отсутствуют традиционные для рок-музыки темы отчаянья и эмоционального надрыва. Только уверенность и вкус. Степенные, созерцательные темы вроде «Vengeance», «Dead Man Progress» или «Revelations» невозможно оценить мгновенно, как невозможно сразу же, без постановки, ставить Threnody в проигрыватель раз за разом. Эта музыка требует выдержки и некоторой паузы. По прошествии времени я без колебаний ставлю альбому высший балл. |
