Assassins is a Metal Core/Post Hard Core band hailing from Detroit Michigan. Formed in 2010, Assassins uses their music to wake their audience up to the world they live in, and find the balance between questioning authority and establishing self identity by any means necessary. Drawing inspiration from other musicians such as We Came as Romans and August Burns Red, their heavy sound and relentless vocals reflect their perception of the complacency and lack of integrity that plagues the world in a time that requires change and fortitude. Assassins harnesses this message to convince whoever is listening of their worth and potential, urging their audience to question the ties that bind us, but constantly keep moving forward. To try and do right, but understand that there is wrong in the world, and to make the reality you wish to see in the world come to life, no matter what the cost is.
Assassins has been touring the midwestern United States, sharing their energy and message wherever it will be heard, and have gathered a following of fans that accept a common and unified goal. This goal has been manifested through their release of the EP entitled “The Awakening,” which was revealed to the public in 2012. The genesis of this EP can be traced back to the work of Todd Jansen, who is responsible for the writing of the music and the sustainability of their message.
“There is no point in lying to ourselves anymore, things need to change” says Jansen, vocalist and founder of Assassins. “This message has been a consistent one, not only in the world of music, but in every facet of human nature. Change is a vital essence to the continuity of human life and happiness, we get that, but we do not intend to inspire change with sugar coated messages and roses in our eyes. This is a cruel world that doesn’t play by the rules, so why should we? The message to our fans is a simple one: Question everything, and take nothing for granted. Yes, we come off as angry. Yes, we come off as pissed off, because we are. But through our anger came insight. Insight to the steps that need to be taken in order to make the world what it needs to be. Some may not like what we have to say, but it doesn’t make it any less true. We refuse to lie to ourselves, or are fans, anymore. It’s time to wake up and realize what we are worth by questioning authority, and creating the only truth that matters; the truth we create for ourselves.”
