Members of this group have been playing together since 1993, but only officially became Mentality, having by then chose it as their band name, in 1995.
Mentality's debut demo ''The Inexperienced Butcher'' was awarded Demo of the Year in 1996 Slovakian Metal Hammer. Next Mentality started to play locally around Slovakia, later also in Czech Republic.
In June 1997 Mentality recorded new material which consisted of 8 songs (40 minutes) and four songs were chosen as a promo tape '97 and these tapes were sent to the labels, zines, and radio stations worldwide, with Mentality receiving very positive feedback.
