AZMODAN from the dark Black Forest are committed to somber, symphonic and atmospheric Black Metal at its best. Listening to their debut album Evil Obscurity, you wouldn't think that the band was only founded in early 1997. While the seven blood-dripping pieces of art slightly resemble bands like DIMMU BORGIR or CRADLE OF FILTH, AZMODAN managed to give their songs a distinct personal note, and not least the female guest vocals make Evil Obscurity especially original. While it can be said that Evil Obscurity showcases an excellent mixture of high speed riffs and melodic keyboard arrangements, what Lord Azmodan and his three Dark Warriors created here cannot exactly be described with words. The opening The Arrival is a brilliant Black Metal anthem with an extremely brutal chorus that's really catchy nonetheless; the songs lyrics describe supernatural places and express what the name AZMODAN actually stands for. The following Spellbound even excels that brilliance, certainly causing every Black Metal fan to go mad and wild. Shortly after the release of Evil Obscurity, Lord Azmodan decided to part ways with his collaborators, because they rather hindered the creative process than furthering it, and continue AZMODAN as a solo project, managing the whole song writing on his own, as well as playing all the instruments himself, which is no problem for him because he is a very talented allround musician, skilful enough to play guitar as well as bass guitar, keyboards and drums. In July 1999, the successor to Evil Obscurity was released, receiving very positive responses and making AZMODAN a cult act in the Black Metal underground. The album called Of Angels And Demons showed a great improvement both of the production and song writing and can easily compete with the genres best works. This masterpiece seven tracks speak for themselves Of Angels And Demons again contains dreadful Black Metal with such a dense atmosphere, agression and intensity that most of the scenes big names should better watch out for AZMODAN. Once more, Lord Azmodan has proven that he's able to combine an intense atmosphere with brutal aggression in a very intelligent way.
