The band formed in 1992 as a death-grind act under the name V.O.M.A. (Vomit on Mental Authority). There are no demos under this name except for a few rehearsal tracks.



In 1994, the band changed the name to God and adopted a new musical direction: death doom metal with elements of symphonic, folk and atmospheric metal. The band defines their style as barbarian metal.
