Tempt are not about starting a revolution. Nor are they about taking the past and reimagining it. No, what Tempt are doing is far more exciting and dynamic than such glib phrases would suggest. Welcome to the future of rock. A bold statement? Of course it is. But it also happens to be... TRUE!
In the few years since their formation, Tempt have created a style, verve, vibe and quality that is of their own making. Here is what we have all craved and desired for so long. Namely, a band for the modern era who do not pander to trends. Nor are they dependent on their influences. No, here are four talents who meld and merge into something that is far more than the sum of those considerable parts.
So, who are Tempt? They are vocalist Zach Allen, guitarist Harrison Marcello, bassist Chris Gooden and drummer Nicholas Burrows. Aside from Burrows, who comes from Windsor, Ontario, they all hail from New York. But in a way, their geographical location is irrelevant. Because what they have is a sound that appeals to a global community.
What are they like? Firstly, the songs are sparklingly melodic. One listen and they stay firmly in the mind. Like so many greats from the '70s and '80s, what Tempt have already mastered is the ability to write and perform tunes which have an articulate simplicity, thereby ensuring the material is instant and memorable. However, what they also have is fluent, fluid and vibrant musicianship. And this has attained the highest possible level. But crucially, what Tempt do is tailor their virtuosity to ensure it always enhances the compositional structure. There are no outrageous solo excursions done for their own sake.
Tempt are already doing, at such a young age, what defined the true giants of rock. Namely combining vast and diverse abilities to ensure that what you hear is charismatic, commanding and timeless. This music is not about superficial flamboyance, but depth and class. They showed their potential in 2016, with their debut album 'Runaway'. Now they have stepped up a level with their new album to be released in 2022. Onstage this band have already proven their pedigree both as club headliners and also supporting bands like Bon Jovi in arenas. Nothing phases them.
You want supreme songwriting? Tempt have it. You want stunning performance? Tempt do this naturally. You want focused energy? Tempt deliver with flowing zest You want a rock band who pay respect to the past, yet are striding into the future? Tempt are that band.
Welcome to the new world. And this is a world that belongs to Tempt. -Malcolm Dome London 2020
